Afghanistan named their 15-member squad for the ICC World Twenty20 Cup as they included two new players Shabir Noori and Sayed Nasrat in the squad. The only other change from the squad that won the ICC World Cup T20 qualifier is that they left out Aftab Alam. This is the first time that Afghanistan is participating in any global cricket tournament and they are placed in Group C with heavyweights like India and South Africa. The group is arguably the toughest group in this year’s World T20 where Afghanistan will have to win against the world’s top two test teams in order to make it to the next stage. But with the current form and recent run of success, it might not be surprising if they manage to pull up a surprise win or at least give a very tough competition to the two cricketing giants.
The 15-member Afghanistan squad is:
Nawroz Mangal (captain), Mohammad Nabi, Karim Sadiq, Mirwais Ashraf, Rais Ahmadzai, Dawlat Ahmadzai, Mohammad Shahzad, Hamid Hassan, Samiullah Shinwari, Noor Ali, Asghar Stanikzai, Shahpoor Zadran, Shabir Noori, Sayed Nasrat, Shafiq Shafaq.
