Afghanistan cricket team were scheduled to fly to UK on April 18 and then from UK to Guyana in the West Indies by April 20. Afghanistan cricket team are scheduled to train in Guyana and play in some local matches before the World Cup Twenty20 to adjust to the local conditions. Afghanistan will also play two warm up games on April 27 and April 28 against West Indies and Ireland respectively. But they had to abort their travel plans as European airspace including UK was closed due to the volcanic ash cloud. Afghanistan players were a bit disappointed but they organized an extra training session at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium which is their home ground. Afghanistan play their first match in the World Cup Twenty20 against the world’s no.1 test team and winners of the 2007 edition of World Cup Twenty20 India on May 1. Their second game is against the world’s no.2 test team South Africa on April 5. Afghanistan have been placed in Group C with the two of biggies of world cricket India and South Africa but they are expecting to give a spirited fight.
