Raees Ahmadzai, the long-serving Afghanistan middle-order batsman, has retired from all cricket to concentrate on finding the next generation of Afghan players.
On his Twitter feed, he said: “I will still be involved with cricket, working as chief selector for the ACB, but it is time for the younger generation of Afghans to rise!”.
His retirement may seem strange to onlookers as he’s only 25, although it’s believed that he may be 5-10 years older than his official age
A plus for the team is that his departure will give a chance to some of the younger players, such as Shabir Noori, to step up and make an impression.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan team has arrived back in Kabul after their appearance in the World T20.
Good for giving chance to youngers as he is almost 35-38 years old, but it is strange that he will be working as chief selector.
@ Aimal I guess Raees knows a lot about the current players, hence the reason for him being a chief selector.
.-= Shortthirdman´s last blog ..Why there has to be an annual ICC tournament =-.
This is a first step in anything Afghan that someone retires for the sake of new blood coming in. I hope we will have this in politics as well.
Apart from everything, great step, this guys knows everything about Afghan cricket and him as cheif selector will do only good to Afghan cricket.
