Hamid Hassan and Mohammad Nabi had a mixed day as they played for MCC against Pakistan at Lord’s today. Pakistan won the match by 6 runs.
Hassan opened the bowling alongside Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas for MCC. His first ball was driven into the covers for what should have been a dot ball, however, his team mate Nabi misfielded and the ball went for two. The day only got worse for Hassan as he got clobbered for 42 runs in his 3 overs. Although it was a poor performance, it is fair to point out that Hassan usually bowls the at the end of Afghanistan’s innings – unlike at the start like he did today.
Nabi, the all-rounder, had a more successful day, going for an economical 18 runs his 4 overs as well as taking a wicket. Despite MCC having a stiff target of 166, the big-hitting Nabi came in at 7, with just two balls left. In those two balls he needed to score 10 – he only managed 1 off 1. No-one can blame him, though.
It will have been an enjoyable experience for them to play at the home of cricket.
Hamid Hassan and Mohammad Nabi will now fly to the Netherlands to catch up with their team mates ahead of the World Cricket League Division One. They play a warm-up match against Scotland on Tuesday, before the first competitive match against Canada on Thursday.
