After a false dawn, Rashid Latif has finally started his job as batting coach of Afghanistan. He had originally been given the job a month ago but the ACB reversed their decision following pressure from players in the national team members. However, Afghanistan batsmen struggled in the recently completed World Cricket League Division 1, so they went back to Latif to help with the batting.
In a press conference in Kabul, Latif underlined his ambitious plan for the team, vowing to gain “Test statues in two or three years”. He also said that “the weakness of Afghan batting is that players do not play regular matches”.
As the picture above shows, Latif has already started work with the Afghan batsmen. He will continue to coach them as Afghanistan prepare for their crucial four-day match against Scotland later this month.
