Afghanistan will aim to repeat the success they had in beating Scotland in the four-day game, when they face the same opponents in two ODIs. The first match starts later today, while the second game – and the final game of the tour – is tomorrow. Both games will be played in Ayr, at the same ground where Afghanistan thrashed Scotland by 229 runs in the Intercontinental Cup game.
Hamid Hassan, who took 11 wickets in the four-day game, is a fitness doubt for today after he picked up an ankle injury during one of his lengthy bowling spells during the I Cup game.
“My ankle is really hurting at the moment and when it is cold it hurts to move my ankle. Hopefully I will be able to be fit so I can help my country win the ODI matches as well,” Hamid said.
Hamid has also said how he played through the pain-barrier to help his country to victory against Scotland.
“I was very worried about my ankle and I bowled too many overs on it. I bowled 27 overs with an ankle injury, but everybody was trying very hard to take a wicket and we all performed well.”
Hopefully Hamid can pull through and play as he is in the form of his life and is invaluable to Afghanistan.
