Kenya fought back on the third day with bat and ball, but Afghanistan are still on the verge of a win that will take them to the top of the Intercontinental Cup.

Resuming their second innings on 166-5 and a lead of 470, Afghanistan were quickly shot out for 207, with James Ngoche taking 5-39. This meant Kenya needed an improbable 512 for victory, and they soon had a set-back when Hamid Hassan bowled Seren Waters for 8.

But that early wicket wasn’t a sign of things to come as Kenya, led by David Obuya (79 off 110 balls), held up the visiting bowlers. Collins Obuya, Steve Tikolo and Maurice Ouma all reached fifties as well to further frustrate Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, though, gradually chipped away and at the end of day had Kenya 324-6, still needing four more wickets, while the home side require another 188 runs for an unlikely win.
