Sharjah Cricket Stadium named ‘home ground’ for Afghanistan

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium has been named as the ‘home ground’ for Afghanistan for hosting ODI and first-class cricket. The grant was made by Abdulrahman Bukhatir after the continuous rise of Afghanistan in world cricket even though they do not have even one proper cricket ground in Afghanistan. Sharjah Cricket Stadium is incidentally the stadium which has hosted the most number of One Day Internationals. It was once a hot spot for organizing cricket tournaments though its popularity decreased after match fixing allegations. UAE Cricket Board administrator Mazhar Khan also said that giving Afghanistan use of Sharjah and grounds at Al Dhaid Cricket Village will help in revitalisation of cricket in the country.
