Afghanistan Youth reach Ramadan Cup final

Afghanistan Youth Cricket Association have reached the final of the Ramadan Cup, after beating Pakistan Korangi Cricket Club by six wickets.

Pakistan Korangi Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat at the Asghar Ali Shah Cricket Stadium in Karachi. Early wickets succumbed their hopes of a big score and they had to settle for a below-par 119-7 in 20 overs. Hamid Hassan was the star with the ball, picking up 3 wickets in his 4 overs. In an all-round impressive performance with the ball, no Afghan bowler went for more than 24 runs.

In the chase, openers Shafiquallah Shafaq and Mohammad Shahzad departed early, but Asghar Stanikzai and Mohammad Nabi put on a crucial partnership to lead Afghanistan Youth to the brink on victory. Stanikzai was run-out for 41 so it was left to Nabi, who finished unbeaten on 35, and Shenwari Samiullah to take Afghan Youth to victory with 4 balls to spare.

AYCA will play club side A.O. Blues in the final on Monday. A.O. Blues have Pakistan internationals Imran Nazir and Naved-ul-Hasan in their ranks so a tough battle is expected.
